Amanda Lay

Bite-Sized Learning, Big Results: Microlearning Strategies for ELA

An ELA educator with over a decade of experience teaching middle and high school. I focus on bringing innovative teaching strategies that prioritize student engagement to my classroom. I recently completed my Master’s degree in Learning Experience Design and Educational Technology, with an emphasis on the use of microlearning strategies as a professional development and instructional design tool.

Trending in YA: Themes and Trends in Literature for Teens

Anush is one of the Teen Services Librarians for Arapahoe Libraries. As part of her focus on outreach, she works closely with schools to conduct booktalk visits focused on reader’s advisory throughout the school year.

Cameron Gillespie

Supporting Identity Development through Humor, Absurdism, and Satire in YA Literature

Cameron Gillespie (she/her) is a teen librarian at Denver Public Library; she has worked in publishing and as a teaching assistant for an adolescent development college course. Cameron's publications include book reviews for IndieReader and book recommendations and lesson plans for Scholastic Teacher Magazine. She holds a BS in Educational Theatre and a Master’s in Library & Information Science.

Candice Jalili

Protecting (& Sustaining) Your Creativity

Candice Jalili is an Iranian American writer whose work has appeared in Cosmopolitan, The Cut, Rolling Stone, Elite Daily, and more. Candice lives in New York City with her husband, where she is a convenient walk away from her cousins and childhood best friend. She grew up in the Bay Area and spends hours of her days FaceTiming her parents there. She is the author of Finding Famous and Seeing Stars.

Carina Morrison

How Do I Get My Book in the Library? The Many Roads to Publishing for Teens!

Carina Morrison is a 17-year-old senior in high-school at Kent Denver, and writes both fantasy and realistic fiction novels. Her first novel, self published in 2023, is titled “The Glass Daughter” and is available on Amazon and in the Arapahoe Public Libraries. In her free time, she is an avid reader, participates in theater and enjoys spending time with friends.

Cheryl Carpinello

Editing: What is it? Who Needs it? When to do it? How to do it?

Tales and Legends appeals to readers of all ages, particularly those who have struggled with reading. Through my 25 years of teaching experience with diverse readers, I’ve found that stories from the Ancient Worlds and Arthurian Legend draw in readers of all abilities. My Grandma/Grandpa’s Tales help young readers build reading skills through nature tales.

Cody Robinson

Party Animals: Reads with Creature Vibes

Cody Robinson (he/him) is the Teen Services Librarian at Aurora Public Library. He’s all about creating a space that’s for teens, by teens and loves keeping up with whatever teens are into these days (even if it makes him feel a little old). When he’s not at the library, you can find him birdwatching, hiking, gardening, or getting crafty.

I am a Colorado educator with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and Language, and a Master's Degree in Secondary English Educator. I present content to help teachers get back their time to teach and stop losing valuable teaching time due to low level behaviors in the classroom.

As a school librarian for 12 years, I've helped students discover excitement in learning, connect their interests to classwork, and find joy in a good story. I'm also the co-founder of Tangled Tree Learning, a company focused on hands-on, experiential learning that sparks curiosity and empowers exploration.

Thane Benson

Writing & Drawing is Easy (when creating is play and not work)

Thane Benson is an award-winning comic book writer, artist, and game designer. He is the creator of the adventure comic book series Quick The Clockwork Knight and the infernal mystery graphic novel BURNT. Thane has worked for McFarlane Toys, created web comics for DC comics, and is the the writer and co-creator of the ongoing superhero satire series The Mistakes for Maze Comics.

Tori Sandoval and the GSA Teen Advisory Board

Read with Pride!

Tori is the the Teen Outreach Librarian at Jeffco Public Library. The GSA Teen Advisory Board for the Jeffco Public Library is a group of teenage youth advocates who help guide the library on LGBTQ+ programs and services for youth. They are avid readers and fantastic event planners!

Vivienne Burkhalter (she/they) is a 7th grader who enjoys reading, writing, poetry and playing the flute. She has written around five book and published one poetry collection, and they are working on two more books at the moment.
